What a negative title you may think. Well Hollywood and other worldly influences have portrayed it in many negative formats in terms of movies, books and music over the years. We also know that it is a well known phrase for other death row inmates to direct to someone on his way to the gallows as he walks past their cells. As an old-school biker I once owned a black T shirt with the same slogan on it but it had an entirely different and positive meaning. It actually referred to a mind set one can develop that is based on Scripture in the Bible.
Rom 6:3 Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into His death?
Rom 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father; even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Rom 6:5 For if we have been joined together in the likeness of His death, we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection;
Rom 6:6 knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him in order that the body of sin might be destroyed, that from now on we should not serve sin.
This is a central truth we teach at House Regeneration in Biblical Therapy. We teach that by believing what the Word of God says about my new status in Christ, I am alive to Christ and dead to the influences of the world. By changing my mind from a world viewpoint to a Biblical viewpoint, I come to repentance. That means in effect I make a turnaround in my belief system. I am no longer self-centred, selfish and self reliant. I confess my need for God, His forgiveness as He offered it in the Bible, and put all my trust in Him for a new life. Regeneration or rebirth; is the granting of His grace, the putting back into my human body His life giving Spirit and the renewal of my mind. By studying and believing in His Word, my mind changes and I become the person He originally designed me to be. Not serving sin does not mean we are sinless or without faults. It means that as our minds become more like God, we are less prone to give in to negative thoughts that will lead us into sin. As the mindset of Christ grows in us, we become more powerful in our spiritual life and less controlled by our worldly passions. Once mature in Christ we walk in wonderful victory as dead to the world viewpoint but alive to God.
